Postpartum Care Kit Checklist and Essentials

Postpartum care package for moms

Giving birth is one of the best experiences you will ever have, but let’s face it things can get pretty messy and uncomfortable in the postpartum weeks that follow. The good news is, things do go back to normal.  Usually you’ll feel better down there in a week, but it does take a good 6 weeks for a complete recovery.  This postpartum care package list is essential for after birth

I’ve been taking care of postpartum moms for a while and this postpartum care package checklist is all you’ll need after delivery. I recommend all of these items to my patients – and we use these specific items at my hospital.

Make sure to ask the nurse for extras to take home with you. Also, check out my Hospital packing for labor and delivery post to make sure you’re well prepared for the hospital.

Maternity Maxi Pads

These Coviden Maternity Pads are super heavy absorbency pads.  They are amazing and my Postpartum moms love them.  Expect to bleed for 2-6 weeks, so its important to have these on stock.

Peri Bottle

Most hospitals give these out , so make sure to ask for one to take home with you.  They are also super cheap on Amazon.

Dermoplast

Dermoplast is the absolute best, it cools and soothes your vaginal area if you have any tears and burning. It’s only provides a temporary cooling relief so reapply often

Mesh Postpartum Underwear

Girls, I swear these mesh postpartum underwear are so soft and comfy, you’ll never want to take them off.

Stool Softener

In the days that follow delivery, it may be a little difficult to have a bowel movement.  Colace helps speed things along. We give them to you while you’re in the hospital, but it’s a good idea to have some at home too.

Hemorrhoid Cream

If you have hemorrhoids after delivery,  hemorrhoid cream is a must!

Tucks pads

Tucks pads are another healing and cooling aid that you can insert onto your pad in your undies for comfort.

Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen works wonders for swelling inflammation and pain from postpartum uterine contractions.

Donut Cushion

This donut cushion helps relieve the pressure from your vaginal area, as well as hemorrhoids to make healing quicker and easier.

Ameda Nipple Gel Pads

Ameda Nipple Gel Pads are a must-have for sore nipples. You can put them in the refrigerator so they are cool and keep them on your breasts in between nursing sessions.
